Memory Verse of the Week

“For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret,
whereas worldly grief produces death. ”
(2 Corinthians 7:10 ESV)

2 Corinthians 6 (ESV)

Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain. For he says,

“In a favorable time I listened to you,
    and in a day of salvation I have helped you.”

Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. We put no obstacle in anyone’s way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: by great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love; by truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; through honor and dishonor, through slander and praise. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as punished, and yet not killed; 10 as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything.

11 We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians; our heart is wide open. 12 You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted in your own affections. 13 In return (I speak as to children) widen your hearts also.

14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?15 What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said,

“I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them,
    and I will be their God,
    and they shall be my people.
17 Therefore go out from their midst,
    and be separate from them, says the Lord,
and touch no unclean thing;
    then I will welcome you,
18 and I will be a father to you,
    and you shall be sons and daughters to me,
says the Lord Almighty.”

  1. Well, today there is no way I can choose one or even a few verses that really speak to me, because they all make my heart soar. I am LOVING 2 Corinthians, and, as always, God always tells me what I need to hear.

    I pray that God will continue to sanctify me – this is hands-down the most incredible thing I have ever felt. I feel like I'm finally getting it.

  2. Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. ~2 Corinthians 6:2b

    In this verse, the Apostle Paul quotes Isaiah 49:8

    Thus says the Lord:
    “In a time of favor I have answered you;
        in a day of salvation I have helped you;
    I will keep you and give you
        as a covenant to the people,
    to establish the land,
        to apportion the desolate heritages…

    In the original context, this was addressed to the Servant of the Lord and spoke of Israel's release from exile in Babylon. Paul uses this to say the day of salvation is found in Christ and the gospel era is now.

    This verse comes to mind often – especially when I'm ministering to someone. Most people seems to think tomorrow is guaranteed and there is plenty of time to "get things right with God."

    Tomorrow is not guaranteed to anyone. Today is the day of salvation!

    Hebrews 3:15 says, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

  3. 2 Corinthians 6:1 (ESV)
    1  Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain.

    2 Corinthians 6:1 (NASB77)
    1  And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain–

    2 Corinthians 6:1 (TLB)
    1  As God’s partners, we beg you not to toss aside this marvelous message of God’s great kindness.

    2 Corinthians 6:1 (MSG)
    1  Companions as we are in this work with you, we beg you, please don't squander one bit of this marvelous life God has given us.

    Partners together with God

    Paul reminds the believers at Corinth, that they are working together, representing the same God with the same message. I find this message beautiful. For God has us working together – with him. In what way are we working together, we work together with the message of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18-21).
